Burkus is a one-person game and app studio in Northern Ireland. I'm Ronan Burke, and I started it in 2023. Burkus builds a variety of different apps and games.

What Burkus is about

Burkus is about games with some interesting tech under the hood. My first game, Catlists, uses a creative solution for offline multiplayer, and my second game, You've Changed, uses a modular level design system. It'll launch with over 500 anomalies across 4 levels.

You've Changed

You've Changed is an anomaly horror game. Think scary spot-the-difference: you memorise a room, then report anything that changes. It has a retro look inspired by 3rd-gen consoles like the NES, and the enemies are hand-rotoscoped. I've put a lot of work into the balancing so hunting for anomalies is fun on every difficulty.

You've Changed is in development for Steam (Windows). Learn more about You've Changed in the announcement blog.

Catlists

Catlists is a word game. Through unique, offline multiplayer tech that I developed, the global community all play the same live round. The game features randomly generated rounds with unique questions and modifiers. Catlists can be customised with personalized themes and accent colors.

Catlists is available for iPhone/iPad, Android, Microsoft Store (Windows), and Steam (Windows). You can find out more about Catlists in its launch blog.

Fully-featured games just like the good old days

I want Burkus games to feel complete and be worth coming back to, with things like replays and ways to make your own content. As Burkus evolves, the app & game lineup will expand to encompass more genres and platforms.

About me

I'm a software enthusiast with a strong background in the field. I studied at Ulster University Magee before moving on to a career in software development. I've worked on some very notable, high-profile apps during my time in professional software development.

Outside of work I'm into films, music (vinyl and gigs!) and, of course, video games. The first console I played was my older brother's Sega Mega Drive, where I was hooked on the RTS Mega-Lo-Mania. My favourite series is Metal Gear Solid.

I've made plenty of prototype apps and games over the years. You can see the code for some of them, like R6Counters.com, on my GitHub.

What's next

Now that Catlists is out, keep an eye out for future updates to Catlists with fixes, improvements, and content updates. There are always new announcements about my second game, You've Changed, so follow all of the studio's social channels!
